Why People Study in Germany
(1) At German universities, no tuition fees are charged for foreign students and for German citizens.
(2) Foreign students are allowed to work part-times the whole year [The minimum full-paid leave is 1 month per year, so they only work a maximum of 11 months (240 days) per year]. Because by working outside of study time you can earn more money than you have to spend on a living.
(3) If you study and work in Germany, you will get a permanent residence permit in Germany after 2 years.
Why can everyone in Germany say that they have a materially secure life?
All German nationals and persons with permanent residence permits who lives in Germany are legally entitled to a monthly subsidy for living expenses if they have little or no monthly income.
Because of this basic security, everyone living in Germany can live carefree for the rest of their life.
Is it possible to study with the income from a part-time job in Germany?
We interviewed a student who came to the University of Düsseldorf through “AECOT Consulting”. He works part-time as a salesman alongside his studies. His working hours are 20 hours a week, spread over three days. With a minimum of one month of paid annual leave, he only works for a maximum of 11 months a year. With this part-time job, he no longer needs to prove that he has € 11,387 (12,525 USD) annually for his residence permit.
He earns more than €1,000 (1100 USD) per month and his total monthly cost of living is €770 (847 USD). So he has a monthly surplus of €230 (250 USD), so he can save up to €2,760 (3000 USD) per year.
BAföG, the state grant for a German student attending university, is €934 (1027 USD) per month in 2023.
